Hollywood Film Scoring

This course focuses on the language of film music, in addition you will get a lot of tips regarding orchestration, melodies and how to deal with sample libraries.

Here you will find the harmonic concepts you know from many films by composers such as Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Bernard Herrmann, John Williams, Thomas Newman, Alan Silvestri, and many others. This harmonic language is also found in games, trailers, and other areas of media music such as theater and advertising.

The course assists you in storytelling through music, this means understanding which techniques are necessary for composing each emotion and mood.

In the course, I use the concept of practical harmony, I explain the techniques so quick and simple as possible to improve your musical vocabulary, and reach your next level. Many of my students have benefited from this Method.

All concepts and the 72 audio examples are in C, allowing you to easily follow and compare them. The course consists of 45 videos and is 4 hours long. I kept the course as short as possible. So that you can use the techniques for you as quickly as possible.

There is always a brief theory section, followed by a walkthrough demonstrating how i use this approach when I’m writing. In the walkthrough, you’ll learn valuable insights about orchestration, motifs and how to create high-quality mockups. In two cases I compare the sample-based mock-up with a real recordings of the same piece.
